TSA Searches Black Woman's "Poofy" Hair

Now the Transportation Security Administration is concerned with your hair, especially if it "poofs from the body." Actually, the TSA's official policy is apparently now to "examine anything that poofs from the body."

When Laura Adiele, a Black woman, attempted to board a flight at Sea-Tac Airport in Washington, she went through the TSA's full-body scanner. After accepting that dose of radiation, Laura Adiele was pulled aside for a pat-down. The TSA was not comfortable with her hairstyle (or perhaps they found it arousing) and they wanted to run their fingers through it.

Laura Adiele objected at first, but the TSA was not going to let her on her flight until they got to feel-up her hair, so she eventually complied. The TSA then spent some time rifling through the woman's hair. Of course, they found absolutely nothing, and Adiele got to board the flight and arrive at her destination with tussled hair.

So, even with all of their metal detectors, cameras, full-body scanners, explosive sniffers etc., the TSA cannot determine if a woman's hair is a threat to public safety or not without actually running their fingers through it. In reality, the TSA could have easily used their devices to rule out the woman's hair as a threat. When the TSA does stuff like this, they do not do it because they have to. The TSA does this because they can.

While the TSA was busy messing around in this unfortunate Black woman's threatening poofy hair, how many foreign nationals do you suppose walked right through TSA security wearing Muslim head-coverings?

Jacket Required: King County Requires Life Vests for Swimmers

If you plan to swim in a King County, Washington river, make sure to bring a life vest. The King County council made it illegal to swim in area rivers without a life vest. Council members Bob Ferguson, Larry Gossett, Joe McDermott, Julia Patterson, and Larry Phillips voted for the law. The only council members who had enough sense to vote against the law are Reagan Dunn, Jane Hague, Kathy Lambert, and Pete von Reichbauer.

So now, we have government telling us how to swim. How much longer before we are required to wear life vests at the beach? Maybe the next step will be to require swimmers to wear life vests while swimming in public pools. Since people can fall into swimming pools and natural bodies of water, maybe we need a law that dictates anyone within twenty feet of water has to wear a life vest.

Anyone who has ever tried to swim while wearing a life vest knows that is is a terribly uncomfortable challenge. This is an incredibly stupid law and just another ridiculous intrusion of government into the private lives of innocent people.

Secret Service Questions Middle School Boy Without Parental Consent

Timi Robertson of Tacoma, Washington is upset because the Secret Service went to her seventh grade son's school, Truman Middle School, and questioned him without her permission. Thirteen-year-old, Vito LaPinta, claims to have posted on his Facebook site something to the effect that Osama bin Laden was dead and Obama needs to be careful because there could be suicide bombers.

Children, especially younger boys, often have difficulty expressing themselves clearly. It is possible that Vito LaPinta may have phrased his statement awkwardly, and the odd wording is what alarmed the Secret Service, but that does not really matter. Perhaps, Vito LaPinta actually said something threatening.

The problem here is that the Secret Service is going into a child's school, having him pulled out of class, and questioning him without a parent's permission or presence. Why did the Secret Service not just wait a few hours and approach the boy at home? Were they worried the child was going to launch an attack that day? No. The Secret Service approached the boy at school, because they knew they could get away with it there. If they would have gone to the boy's house, his parents would have had an opportunity to refuse questioning and hire a lawyer.

If this situation seems to familiar to you, that probably means you have read about the Gestapo during Germany's Nazi era. The Gestapo was known for questioning people in unexpected situations and questioning children without parental consent. Now, the Secret Service is not the Gestapo, but whatever similarities exist should be noted.
